Stephen Hawking Lifestyle 💫

Early Life👦

Stephen Hawking was born on January 8, 1942, in Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. Her full name is Stephen William Hawking. He was an English theoretical physicist. He was known for his work on black holes and the universe. Stephen was a smart child who loved science and maths. He went to Oxford University to study physics. Later, he studied at Cambridge University and got his PhD in "the study of the universe".Stephen Hawking also worked with space-time singularities. Stephen Hawking's inspirations during his long career as a theoretical physicist and cosmologist were Galileo, "the father of observational astronomy".

Stephen Hawking Family👪

Dr. Frank Hawking and Isobel Hawking were the parents of Stephen Hawking. Frank Hawking was a medical researcher specializing in tropical diseases. Isobel Hawking worked as a secretary for a medical research institute and later as a medical research secretary. Stephen had 3 siblings: two sisters, Philippa and Mary, and an adopted brother, Edward.

At a New Year's party in 1963, Hawking met a young language student named Jane Wilde. They married in 1965. The couple gave birth to son Robert in 1967 and daughter Lucy in 1970. A third child, Timothy, was born in 1979.
At 21 age, he had Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis(ALS). Doctors said only live for 2 years. But Hawking studied continuously and PhD in 1966 with a thesis titled "Properties of Expanding Universe". That year, he won the Adams Prize for his essay "Singularities and the Geometry of Space-Time". The essay was about black holes and how space and time work. Hawking and Jane separated in 1995. Hawking and Elaine Mason married in 1995 but divorced in 2006.

Career and Achievements😎
  • After finishing his PhD, Stephen Hawking became a research fellow at Gonville and Caius College in Cambridge. He stayed connected with this college for the rest of his life.
  • In his early work at Cambridge, he was influenced by Roger Penrose. Together, they worked on singularity theorems, which helped show that the Universe began with the Big Bang.
  • When he was 35 years old, Hawking became the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge. This is a very important position that was once held by Isaac Newton. Hawking held this job from 1979 to 2009, until he retired.
Books📖
Stephen Hawking became very famous when he published his book "A Brief History of Time" in 1988. It was a surprise bestseller and stayed on the Sunday Times bestseller list for 237 weeks, which was a record. The book sold nearly 10 million copies and was translated into 40 languages.

He also wrote other popular science books, such as:

  • Black Holes and Baby Universes

  • The Universe in a Nutshell

  • A Briefer History of Time

  • The Grand Design

  • My Brief History

These books helped explain space, time, and science to regular people in simple ways.

Honors and Recognition💥

Hawking received many important awards, such as:

  • CBE (1982)

  • Companion of Honour (1989)

  • US Presidential Medal of Freedom (2009)

  • The Copley Medal

  • The Albert Einstein Award

  • The Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society

  • The Fundamental Physics Prize

Legacy
In 2014, a movie called "The Theory of Everything" was made about Hawking’s life. The actor Eddie Redmayne played Hawking and won an Oscar for Best Actor in 2015.

Stephen Hawking died on March 14, 2018, at the age of 76. He lived over 50 years longer than doctors first expected.

He is remembered as one of the greatest minds in science, who changed how we understand the universe and inspired millions with his courage and brilliance.
